Ashton-Under-Lyne Golf Cub’s Junior Golfers are certainly making their mark in the region;

recently Kieran Metcalf a junior boy at the club won the prestigious Junior Open Competition at The Mere Golf and Country Club in Cheshire, Kieran won the Best Nett Aggregate Score for all competitors which included juniors from all across the North West. Not to be out done by the boys section, Louisa Brunt also continued with her remarkable season – this time Louisa was part of a six strong team of Junior Girls that represented Lancashire in the Northern Region Jamboree for 2011.
This competition brings together six Counties from the North West playing over two days, this year’s host club was the challenging Furness Golf Club in Cumbria, the team from Lancashire secured a convincing win on the second day when 5 out of the six girls won their singles matches. Ashton Under Lyne Golf Club prides itself on the way it encourages juniors of all levels to play this marvellous sport, we are always looking to increase our membership numbers in both the Junior and Ladies sections.

A big well done to Kieran Metcalf who won the Golf Junior Open recently at The Mere Golf and Country Club – Kieran won the Best Nett Aggregate Score beating other Juniors from all over the North West.

On Sunday 10^th July 2011, Ashton Golf Club’s junior golfer Louisa Brunt became the Lancashire Girls Golf Association’s under 13 County Champion for 2011. The competition was over 36 holes of medal play during which Louisa scored a back to back 3 under par 71. The two scores combined also saw Louisa pick up the prize for the best aggregate net score from all categories within the competition.

Not only is this a magnificent personal achievement for Louisa but it is testimony to the excellent Junior Golf Section we have here at Ashton-Under-Lyne Golf Club, we have great Junior Section that is well represented by both junior girls and boys, nevertheless we are continually seeking to increase our membership numbers in both sections.

Ashton Under Lyne Golf Club prides itself on encouraging junior golfers to take up this excellent sport, our young golfers are very important to our Golf Club, which has produced several accomplished players.

Mathew Nixon (British Amateur Golf Champion for 2006), now on the European Tour, learnt his trade through our junior section from an early age here at Ashton. We also have several junior girl players representing and playing with their County, this trend looks likely to continue as more and more young girls and boys take up the sport at our club.

The junior organisers ensure that there is an active programme of events throughout the year and in addition to internal club competitions there is the opportunity to gain experience by representing the club in external competitions and matches. Juniors are actively encouraged to participate in all events.
