Welcome to Ashton-Under-Lyne Golf Club’s Junior Section which is hailed as one of the largest and the best in the area. The Junior Section is open to both girls and boys under the age of 18.

As a Golf Club we are extremely proud of our Junior Section and all it has achieved, we have a long history of producing some of the area’s finest golfers, below are two of our more recent notable successes;
Mathew Nixon (British Amateur Golf Champion for 2006), now competing in his third year on the European Tour; Mathew learnt his trade through our junior section from an early age here at Ashton.

Matt has continued to go from strength to strength and is now successfully enjoying his 3rd year as a European Tour player!.

England Call-Up for Louisa

Louisa earns international call-up

Rising star Louisa Brunt continued her impressive form when she finished second in the English Schools’ National U-16 Championships at Rochdale Golf Club.It gained the Ashton-under-Lyne player, who was just a shot off the pace, automatic selection to represent ESGA in an international match against Wales at Lytham Green Drive on August 18-19.

Louisa, who held the course record for a short time this summer and is the Lancashire LGA U-15 champion, said: “Earning selection to play against Wales is a real honour. Only four girls are selected from across the whole of England. All the hard work I put into my training is beginning to pay off.”

She also won the England Golf Rose Spoon for June, an award run between April and October for the best national nett score in any women’s strokeplay competition.
Louisa Brunt (Junior under 13 County Champion for 2011 and North Region English Women’s Golf Champion for 2012) Louisa is currently in her second year of training with one of England Golf Squads, Louisa also represents the Ladies County Team at both junior and senior level.
As more and more Junior Members join our club this trend is set to continue into the future. The junior organisers ensure that there is an active programme of events throughout the year, in addition to internal club competitions there is the opportunity to gain experience by representing the club in external competitions and matches. Juniors are actively encouraged to participate in all events.

Junior coaching is provided by our assistant professional Michael Boyle. We have regular training sessions for both experienced and new golfers throughout the summer months. For those wishing to progress the game further and would like individual tuition, Michael is always happy to discuss individual training sessions at a competitive rate.
