At AULGC, we take pride in giving back to the community through our annual charitable initiatives. Each year, our Club Captains select charities close to their hearts, and we come together as a club to support these worthy causes.

Through fundraising events, tournaments, and generous member contributions, we help make a meaningful impact. Whether it’s local organisations or national charities, our commitment to giving back is a key part of our club’s values, ensuring that our love for golf also serves a greater purpose.

Charities

Prostate Cancer UK

Prostate Cancer UK are dedicated to combating prostate cancer, the most common cancer among men in the UK. They focus on funding groundbreaking research to develop better treatments and tests for early detection. They provide comprehensive information and support services, including resources on risk factors, symptoms, and treatment options. Their specialist Nurses offer personalised assistance to men, their families, and friends. The charity also emphasises the importance of early diagnosis and encourages men to assess their risk using their 30-second online risk checker.

The Ticker Club

The Ticker Club, is a voluntary organisation offering practical advice and moral support to new patients before and after surgery. Affiliated with the British Heart Foundation, the club provides near-daily visits to cardiac wards and outpatient clinics, representing patients’ interests within the hospital and the broader NHS. Fundraising efforts, including events and donations, have raised over £1.5 million to enhance facilities and equipment for the hospital’s heart and vascular units.

Maggie’s

Maggie’s offers free cancer support through expert advice, emotional guidance, and practical help in centres across the UK and internationally. Services include support groups, stress management, financial advice, and therapies like relaxation. Maggie’s aims to enhance well-being for those affected by cancer, including families and caregivers. Their welcoming spaces provide community and care during challenging times.

Willow Wood Hospice

Located in Ashton-under-Lyne, Willow Wood provides specialist palliative care for adults with life-limiting illnesses in Tameside and the surrounding areas. Their services, offered free of charge, include inpatient care, family support, and community well-being programs. The hospice relies on community support to raise approximately £3.3 million annually, with around 80% of funds coming from donations and fundraising activities like our annual golf day.
